Wonderful evaluation meeting with July Fellowship Gathering

Chairman Michel introduced a nice and cozy place for this meeting cum gathering. It was Zzip Oyster Bar & Restaurant at Central. I was happy to see the happy faces of the new members who felt satisfied after the completion of the project. Of course, they were excited to hear many good feedbacks for the event, yet they treasured more of their friendship with each other. As a little token of appreciation, PP Jeritza and myself treated them for the dinner.

Recruitment Seminar 2

A full house event with over 200 participants. The topic is “New Era of Interpersonal Relationships and Communication Skills” (新時代的人際關係與溝通技巧). Mr John Chan GBS, JP (Chairman of the Hong Kong Jockey Club) and Ms Ellen Tsang (2009 National Presidential Advisor of JCIHK, 2005 National President of JCIHK) were the speakers.

We had around 10 Jayceette members and friends attending the event. I took the opportunity to have a quick dinner with NAEO Stanley and CJC President Raymond at MacDonald. We shared a lot about JC experience. When we returned to the seminar, the speakers’ sharing was nearly done while attendees seemed to be satisfied with the talk. One thing though, this event was more like a seminar than a recruitment seminar.

Many people left before the “show” ended while I chose to stay and mingle with JC friends. Establishing friendship is what I treasure the most at JC.

Sorry

NEVP Gene … I am very sorry that I am not able to join your 2010 team after a thorough consideration again for my schedule next year. For my reasons, I had emailed them to you already. Hope you understand.

May I wish you and 2010 National Officers a big success and I am sure with your great leadership, the National Board and the 19 chapters will be running very smoothly to promote the brand of JCIHK. Have a great 60th anniversary celebration for JCIHK!

Second PP gathering of the year

14 Past Presidents joined the dinner gathering at華商會this time. President Candidate Kathy Woo also joined us. The atmosphere was good and it was like a mid-year review. I do pay high respect on the past presidents and they are all very supportive though I agree that my opinions may not match with what they expect. I treasure the time of getting together as wisdom is needed during the communications. I did learn a lot and this kind of experience in a way helps further enhance my communications with colleagues at work. This is the lovely part of JC, don’t you agree with me?

Enough for the day… I am so pleased to have many Jayceettes supporting the 40th anniversary celebration programs this year.

Senate Gathering

I am not a Senator, it’s because of my role as a Chapter President that I was invited to join the Senate Gathering. A nice dinner at Club Lusitano. A good sharing from Mr Benjamin Tang, JP (鄧國斌), Director of Audit (審計署署長). It was a valuable opportunity for me to meet up and chit chat with some HKJTT Past Presidents there. Wonderful!

「維」我獨變 ﹣王維基的十年人生

A function with my idol, Ricky Wong王維基…
A gathering with 96 participants…
A monthly fellowship gathering with 10 new members got inducted…
An event drawing attention from the press…
A night with a fabulous sharing from the speaker…

To organize an event, there must be a lot of hiccups at the back end but as long as it won’t affect the outcome, it’s fine. After all, everyone enjoys the processes and gains an invaluable experience. I heard a lot of positive feedbacks from the past presidents, JC members and guests.
Thank you Ricky as your sharing was marvelous. The “courage” to “change” is what I have learnt from you. I understand that it’s difficult for all people to accept changes, so I think it is more appropriate to put our focus on “thinking out of the box”. When something has been running like routine jobs, the only way to make further improvement is through continuous reviewing and brainstorming. This makes jobs more interesting, do you agree?

Trip to Kaohsiung (17 – 19 July)

17 July 09
I did not take any annual leave on 17 July as I had to attend a company function. The event finished at around 6pm and I had to bring an important document to JC office before I went to Taiwan.

I then returned home to pack my luggage. In fact, I still have to send out some emails before I went to the airport. At the end, I nearly missed my flight… but luckily, I made it.

When I arrived Kaohsiung and passed the immigration counter, it was almost 00:00 at the midnight. I knew that Kaohsiung JC’s President and my two members who went there earlier on the day were waiting at the gate.

Finally, I met them and I felt sorry that they had to wait for me so late at night. It was raining heavily and I just thought I could go back to the hotel for a rest very quickly. Yet, the President would like to take us for food and drinks!!!!! I like eating and dining in Taiwan but not that late at night, haha. More and more members from Kaohsiung JC joined to welcome me. They ordered so many dishes, just like they did not have dinner.

At around 2 o’clock, President and members of Kaohsiung JC suggested to go to karaoke!!!!!!!!!! I did accept the invitation even though I was extremely exhausted. It was my first time to go to a “night club” for karaoke. Many “pseudo-models” (o靚模) like young girls entered the room. President selected a few to stay in the room. To be honest, I was a bit afraid as I did not know what they would do. I found that the “teen models” were like assistants who helped us pour tea and select songs from the computer. They dressed up in a very sexy way which made me feel very uncomfortable and I felt deeply sorry to them as I thought they should be staying at home and doing homework. They just should not work in the karaoke at this age.

18 July 09
When we returned to the hotel, it was around 5am!!!!!!!!!! After washing my face and unpacking my luggage, it was nearly 6am when I saw the beam of the sunrise. I was informed that Jayceettes’ good friend, Kaohsiung JC’s senior member – Sandy (仙姬) would like to have lunch with us. 12noon to pick us up? Then we could only sleep for 3 hours??? Haha

When Sandy told me that we might not be able to get changed at the hotel before the anniversary banquet, I was very shocked as she was going to take up for a boat trip after lunch. That was arranged by the President. Anyway, Sandy guaranteed that we could go back to the hotel for dress up. We took only 30 minutes to get ourselves changed to a party look while the whole banquet was delayed because of us. We three were treated like super important persons. The President practised for a long time for his English speech that was dedicated to HKJTT.

For me, my speech was only prepared on my way to the restaurant. Therefore, I was really happy when one of the Kaohsiung JC’s senior members gave me very positive comments to my speech. He said I was having very good氣度and it was a good speech. At least, my mandarin did not make a bad break to the event.

We enjoyed the food, chitchat, “hot” show at the function. I was even invited by the performer to play magic. It’s very interesting. The most highlighted part was gift exchange session. Do you know what President gave me? It was a GUCCI handbag!!!!!!!!!!!! So shocked and very happy! Now, I need to think about what I will present to him when he comes to Hong Kong in October.

In Hong Kong, typhoon no. 8 was hoisted and so many JCs and friends sent me sms… I was a bit worried how I returned to Hong Kong…

19 July 09
Again, we were not able to “escape” after the banquet. We joined the first karaoke function afterwards and knew many friends from other chapters in Taiwan. We sang a lot and laughed a lot. We thought we could return to the hotel at around 2am but then… we were “forced” to join the second karaoke. At the end, I was so tired and President let us go back and take a rest. Yet, he asked his member to buy us “midnight supper” (宵夜 – 豬手noodle) on the return trip. It was nearly 4 o’clock when we reached the hotel. I could not imagine that we three had to “enjoy” the food so late at night before we could go to sleep.

I woke up at around 8am as I took the 11-ish flight. When I left the room, Winnie and Tracy were still having a rest. I asked President not to come and say goodbye to me as I thought they must be very tired after the late night karaoke. I tried to take express train by myself. Before that, I bought a “taro ice” (芋園刨冰) as breakfast. It was delicious.

It was still early when I reached the airport while I spent some time to buy souvenirs for Board members and project teams. Lastly, I needed to go on board while it started to rain when I knew typhoon was “leaving” Hong Kong. Just 15 minutes after I reached Hong Kong, there’s no more typhoon signal. Isn’t it amazing?

I did not need to go to Victoria Park for the Carey Bag charity sales as the exhibition was closed down due to typhoon!

The trip ended here. I enjoyed it very much though it was a short trip. I am once again very glad that I have met all the sister and friendship pact chapters in June and July. If you wish to experience the passion of Taiwanese, please join me to visit Kaohsiung friends next time.

Carey Bags

It was so exciting to see the Carey Bag products. I’ve been waiting for a few month…

The bags are pretty and of very good quality. It was really a surprise to me while many JCs who saw them did give us a lot of positive comments. I just love the bags. If you have not got one, go to www.hkjtt.org to order one online. All proceeds collected will be donated to World Vision to help re-establish Sichuan Province.

PM interview and Professional Business SOS Series evaluation meeting

It is not an easy task to gather all board members to conduct PM interview in a short notice. However, we had gathered 5 board members to conduct this PM interview. After that, we went to meet up OCs of Professional Business SOS Series for the evaluation meeting. Good that all OCs were very frank in saying their comments.

In fact, this is not a simple project as the team had to keep their spirit for three months at least. To me, this project ended beautifully. The whole concept of the series is very good. The team just needs to gain more experience at event management. Well done team. Keep it up.

NOM Mid-year evaluation + Anniversary Banquet OC meeting + Dinner hosted by NPA

NOM Mid-year evaluation + Anniversary Banquet OC meeting + Dinner hosted by NPA

I rushed to attend anniversary banquet OC meeting after board meeting. I skipped the NOM mid-year evaluation and HS Betty and HT Fanny attended that on my behalf. I did stay in the meeting for 5 minutes to elaborate a point I stated in the form submitted before. Nevertheless, the OC meeting just ended when VP Joanne and I arrived. Yet, it’s a good chance for me to chat with the most helpful Big Sister / Project Advisor Jacqueline Kung and shared a little bit about my latest updates.

My journey today started from Sheung Wan, then “flew” to Kowloon Tong by taxi. After that, I had to return to Wanchai for dinner with NP, NPA, NOM Officers and LOM Ps. A very nice dinner with excellent atmosphere. I was late and when I arrived, the dinner was almost done while everyone was drinking wines and taking pictures. I could only try my best to eat some food as I was also too busy to be “called” for photoshooting.

Did not know the reason exactly, many LOM Ps came to me and said some much encouraging words. Anyway, I am so glad to know all these lovely classmates.

7th Board Meeting cum PM interviews

A very busy board meeting day with 4 PM interviews. Typhoon no. 3 was hoisted while this did not stop the PMs to come for the interview. Also, IPP had stayed on for the board meeting even though she had pre-arranged appointment with her friends. I was so touched to see the devotion of Jayceettes.

We are being so blessed this year (I have to emphasize this again) as we have really recruited very good members. The new members all showed sincerity and enthusiasm towards the chapter. They know clearly JC is a place for them to learn and experience. Opportunities are everywhere for them. Thanks NMD Brian for assigning good members to HKJTT and much appreciations and credits should go to VP Lucia as she is very committed and dedicated at taking care of the new and potential members. Without her, we won’t be able to have recruited a group of very professional, young and energetic ladies over the past months.

“Shine Like Rubies” is not only a slogan or a dream for HKJTT, but also a reality that is happening among Jayceettes. Ladies, let’s get together and show our passion to enjoy JC and promote this meaningful JC values externally, creating positive change to the community.

Trust Fund Committee Meeting – post meeting feeling

This was held at the same restaurant that MC Competition OC team was having its meeting too. I was supposed to attend both meetings if the Trust Fund one could be finished earlier. However, the Trust Fund Meeting ended at 11.30pm while all MC Competition OC meeting had completed already.

I am the Ex-officio member of the Trust Fund Committee and members in the team are all past presidents or senior members. No matter what, I do pay high respect on them and I think it’s always good to communicate with senior members as they sometimes hold different point of views from us. There is no absolute right or wrong for anything while it is essential for ourselves to balance diverse opinions and find solutions when needed.

A good leader always needs to stay calm and have high EQ during any confrontations. Thanks GOD, I am not doing bad at this area though I may not be very good overall. JC is a good platform for me to experience the art of people management. This will further equip me with the necessary skill sets at work or anywhere beyond JC.

Prospective Member Orientation (private session)

Since we wish to have more PMs being inducted as full members, it is very important for them to learn the background and history of JCI first. In this case, I don’t mind to host the PMO privately for one or two PMs. Even though I was totally exhausted after attending a 2-day camp for my company, I still made myself available to share with the PMs about the JC value. They asked me some questions which also inspired my thinking and once again re-thought about my life as a Jayceettes here. I felt delightful to know that the new members were very interested to discover more wonders of being a JC members.

I think HKJTT is being so blessed this year to have recruited these good members. Jayceettes, get ready to welcome so many new friends. See you at the upcoming MFG!

Mid-year Review Meeting and Dinner with Board of Directors

It’s the 7th month! Time is running very fast and instead of focusing on evaluating the jobs done over the past six months, it should be more constructive to set goals and objectives for the rest of the year. A few large scale projects are to be launched soon while we are all very excited about it. We are also getting close to celebrate our 40th anniversary in October.

It was an evening that we enjoyed a delicious Vietnamese cuisine at Tai Hang. We ended the dinner and meeting with very positive minds and I am sure we are going to create an even more shiny path for the chapter.

Let’s Shine Like Rubies!

Prospective Member Orientation @ JC Office

About 10 PMs and PPMs joined Prospective Member Orientation tonight. Immediate Past President Anny and myself were the speakers of the night. VP Lucia was the MC. I mainly introduced the background of JCI and shared my JC experience over the past 6 years. IPP Anny shared her life in JC to the new friends of Jayceettes. Many new friends were so keen in knowing more about JC and they just stayed behind chatting with us. PP Eva Lum, VP Winnie, Carey Bag Project Chairlady Vivien also attended the function to welcome our new friends. We had a very fruitful evening and discussed with the PMs on the development of HKJTT.

I was so glad to have recruited a group of very high quality and passionate members. When I looked at them, I could see the bright future of HKJTT. Can you feel me?
