I had a two-day holiday with my family at the Mainland China and upon return, I was planned to join two OC meetings – an evaluation meeting for Business Professional SOS Series I and a briefing session for the Sports Day. The evaluation meeting was cancelled at the end so I just went strict to JC office for the latter one.
Right, it’s harsh for me again to “work” on my holiday while I don’t know since when I have decided to take things easy. No matter it’s busy or relaxing, as long as I enjoy it and I feel happy.

The most memorable birthday so far!!! (PART 1)
The story starts from 2200 on 25 Apr.:
On 25 Apr, 2 hours before midnight, a flat in the building next to mine was on fire. That flat was on one floor lowered than my flat and that building was very close to mine. I was shocked when I saw the smoke and flame coming from that flat’s windows and it was so close to my flat. I realized that I had to evacuate.
Have you ever had this kind of experience? I started to pack some valuables before I escaped. Here are the stuffs I brought with me: wallet, mobile phone, keys, camera with many JC photos as well as a few USBs that contained my JC documents!!! Of course, what I thought at that moment was the troubles that I would have if I lost all the files, yet this reflected a bit about the position of JC in my life, hahahaha!!!
This may be a stupid story but it’s true. Also this fire incident was captured on TV news and print media on the next day. Luckily, my flat was not affected. And this is how I “enjoyed” my memorable birthday midnight by waiting for the firemen to extinguish the fire =)

The most memorable birthday so far!!! (PART 2)
I was not intended to attend so many JC functions today as I thought it was my birthday, but at the end, here’s my itinerary of the day:
0930 The 30th International Children Drawing Contest Opening Ceremony by HJC
1100 第二屆<愛知識‧齊分享>名人好書分享會by BJC
1330 Quick lunch with JC
1430 Birthday afternoon tea with good buddies at the Jayceettes
1900 Dinner with family
2130 Memorable cake cutting @ home
There’s only one chance to be the President here, so I dedicated most of my time of my “big” day to JC :)

Jayceettes Ladies SHINE again at JCI World Public Speaking Championship - HK Selection Contest
I am very delighted to share with you another good news. Two of our members won the awards at the 2009 World Championship of Public Speaking - Hong Kong Selection Contest today at Leighton Hill Community Hall:
Michel Fong, Prospective Member - 1st Runner Up
Winnie Yeung, People Development Director - 2nd Runner Up
There were 13 contestants participating in the JC Class Competition and Foley Lam from Dragon Junior Chamber was the winner.
Congratulations to Michel Fong and Winnie Yeung for their wonderful performance and great achievement!!! They earned so much appreciation from the judges, JC members and the audiences.
When you see the two ladies again next time, please do ask them for the tips of being a good public speaker! It may be YOU to win the award next year!

Business Professional SOS Series 1 cum April Fellowship Gathering
The event was held successfully with an attendance of nearly 70 Jayceettes and friends. The first series was “Looking Good – The Magical Wardrobe” and the speaker Priscilla gave us very useful tips on how to “build up” our wardrobe. Though time was limited, the audience had an enjoyable time through the sharing of the speaker.
To match with the theme, I did pay more attention to my outlook that evening. I bought a new dress for this event and wore a new pair of shoes (it was a painful experience to wear that high heels) – I deeply felt the Chinese saying of愛靚唔愛命 “concern about beauty more than life”.
All April birthday girls received a red rose from the OC team and a cash coupon from the speaker as gifts. Wonderful. Yet, the most precious present was from my sister who made up her mind to join our Shining Chapter after this event. Sis, you made an absolutely correct decision!

What is青商事件?
It’s a Prospective Member Orientation organized by the National Board. More than 8 Jayceettes and friends joined the event. Though I have joined JC for more than 5 years, I always found this kind of orientation meeting very funny. Hard sell, soft sell… JC will try to attract you in different ways. The key message I get this time is – you can create your own successful path, all you have to do is to ACT. Whether or not it is for JC, whenever you have a dream, ACT NOW to achieve what you want. Don’t think too much as opportunities won’t wait for you that long…

國情研習班 Study of Mainland Culture @ Beijing (9 – 13 Apr)
There were about 40 JCs joining this trip, including NP, members from the National Board as well as many Chapter Presidents. The major purpose of this trip is to learn more about the current development and culture of China. Courses we attended include:
1. 中國世界形象的演變及危機處理
2. 當前國際金融危機與中國經濟形勢分析
3. 中國人口狀況與發展
4. 中國法律體系、憲法與香港基本法
All the speakers are experts in the areas they teach. Some of them are even tutors for the national leaders and officials within the China’s government. Though I was not interested in all topics, I felt very proud to have finished the program. I highly recommend my friends, no matter JC or not, to participate in this since being a Chinese, we should learn more about the latest development of our motherland. I am certain that you will be amazed of the growth of China.
Besides the educational part, all the delegates were honoured to meet up with a few important government officials such as national political consultant (全國政協). I did raise a question in one of the sessions!
Being a JC, I am so delighted to have more opportunity for me to chitchat with my JC friends, especially my “classmates”. This helps enhance our friendship. In addition, the sightseeing program on the last day was the “highlight” of the trip. It was my first time to visit the Bird’s Nest (鳥巢) and the Water Cube (水立方). Many of us went there for the first time and we had taken so many pictures in these two places. The visit was so memorable: I still remembered the grand opening ceremony of the Olympic Games last August and how Michael Phelps won 8 gold medals at the Water Cube.
Too many nice memories… just want to say, you must make yourself available for the trip next year. This is a not-to-be-missed event in the year!

NOM Recruitment Seminar – Survival Night
This was a joint project organized together with some other youth organizations. I was late for the function and could join only the group discussion with some participants while most of them were JCs actually. The full house attendance indicated the concern of young people towards the current financial tsunaimi. Seemed that everyone was positive enough to survive the difficult times and challenges. Good, it’s JC’s motto to create positive change for the community. Do you want to join us?
